Pretoria’s Going Crazy for Oliver’s Wooden Toys

If you want gifts that last, that don’t need batteries and that your kids won’t be able to break on Christmas Day… Oliver’s your man!

South Africans have been going crazy over the last week for the Faerie Glen craftsman, ever since Marlene Truscott uploaded a photo of Oliver and his wooden toys.

Marlene said: “Oliver is a master crafter of wooden toys for boys and men. On the corner at Glenwood and Manitoba Street, Faerie Glen.”

She said the toys range in cost between R250 and R800, and that the doors and wheels are in working order.

Since her post, people from in and around Pretoria have been visiting Oliver, sharing his post and those further afield – from KZN and East London to Namibia – have been trying to get his number to place an order.

Minette Oosthuysen in Namibia said: “This post has created quite a stir in Namibia. We are going to try find a way to get these cars here!”

According to Pretoria resident, Margo Bowen, who lives close to where Oliver sells his wares, she went by Friday morning and got his numbers. They are: 071 7624410 and 064 4191012.

Another local resident, Denise Biggs, said his Uncle Charlie’s number is 062 4849486. She said Oliver is apparently from Malawi and does not speak English that well.
