“Pretoria is looking absolutely spectacular at the moment,” she says.
Lydia Potgieter says the jacarandas “appear to be at different stages in the blooming cycle. Maybe as a result of drought.”
And it’s not only Jacarandas that are ‘blooming marvellous’…
“The beautiful sights of Pretoria’s streets,” says Carol. “I took these pics in Waterkloof and Groenkloof.”
Earlier today the Jacarandas provided a beautiful backdrop to the Union Building #FeesMarch.

If you’re interested in viewing – or photographing – the jacarandas for yourself, some tips from Gauteng locals include:
- Houghton and Saxonwold in Johannesburg, Beckett Street, Arcadia and Brooklyn in Pretoria
- Steve van den Bergh – “Try Rose Street in Riviera and Nuffield Street in Rietondale. Both in Pretoria and within 1km of each other. Also Government Avenue in Eastwood which is close to the Union Buildings. If you travel down Tom Jenkins Drive in Pretoria you can catch a bird’s-eye view of the Jacaranda trees in the valley below!”
- Maggie Erasmus – “The first Jacaranda tree planted in Pretoria can be found inside the premises of the Sunnyside Primary school. It’s declared as Heritage and is protected.”
- White jacarandas are in Groenkloof, Herbert Baker Street.
- Dianne BluZebra – “On the Gautrain from Joburg to Pretoria, you get a magnificent aerial view over all the Jacaranda’s, stunning to see.”
- With a cocktail on the deck of the Four Seasons Westcliff Hotel!
