Popular Newcomer Sweeps SA Music Awards

At the 22nd Annual South African Music Awards, the Afro-pop sensation Nathi Mankanyi walked away with five awards, including the well-deserved Best Newcomer and Bestselling Album for “Buyelekhaya”, whose “Nomvula” has pulled in more than a million Youtube views in recent months.

The awards were held at a glittering ceremony in Durban on Saturday. At the recent Metro FM Awards, the Eastern Cape singer Nathi also got the prized Song of the Year for “Nomvula” and R230,000 in prize money.

Nathi’s runaway hit “Nomvula” has enchanted listeners across the country since it was released late in 2015. He also won for Best R&B Soul Reggae Album, Best Male Artist and Bestselling Full-Track Music Download for “Nomvula”.
