International Piano Day was celebrated on top of Table Mountain yesterday… with the grand gesture of a grand piano being taken up to the top of one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature.
Piano Day is celebrated annually on the 88th day of the year, in honour of the 88 keys on a piano.
Yesterday The Cableway celebrated with an all-star line-up of 14 of Cape Town’s best pianists, playing beautiful pieces on a “very expensive” grand piano which had made its way up in the Cablecar… to the delight of visitors to South Africa’s iconic Table Mountain.
Photographer Alfred Thorpe said: “What a surreal experience. A Shigeru Kawai grand piano at the top of Table Mountain and amazing pianists. Day made!!”
