Namaqua Roadtrip, 14 – 16 August 2015
Photographers Michelle Slater and Stanwell Slater of African Roots Photography captured the following landscape and creative images (which beautifully demonstrate the “kaleidoscope” of colours) around the Vanrhyansdorp region, including Gannabos Farm (Quiver Tree Forest).
Inspired and inspiring, thanks to Mother Nature.
“The flowers are absolutely fantastic at the moment in this area,” says Michelle. “We have not seen this sort of display in years.”
For those who wish to view the flowers for themselves, they should be around until mid-September, but it is dependent on the weather.
Michelle says there has been an abundance of blooming from the Northern Cape to Clanwilliam. It’s just beginning in the Nieuwoudtville / Calvinia region and Postberg has started but is not yet in full bloom.
For anyone wondering where to stay, the Vredendal, Vanrhyansdorp and Nieuwoudtville areas have plenty of accommodation options including self-catering, B&B, Guest houses and camping.
Animal Magic in Namaqualand
Unknown to many, Postberg Nature Reserve at the West Coast National Park in Langebaan often provides one of the best displays of Namaqualand spring flowers…especially as animals wander almost magically through the fields of flowers…
Dianne Hamlyn took this beautiful photograph on Thursday at Long Acres, Langebaan – “White horse grazing amongst fields of white daisies.”
And Kleinzee Spa Rest Camp sent in these two awesome photos of “Skilpad Nature Reserve in Namakwaland now!”
From Norway to Namaqualand…
For Fish Hoek photographer Robyn Gwilt, it’s been a bright and beautiful welcome home to South Africa after an awesome holiday in Norway. – “Back from Norway…checking the flowers round Nieuwoudtville…stunning!!”
So, if you’re anywhere near Namaqualand – you know where to head this weekend!
