Countless adventurers have jumped, abseiled and done a free-fall off the iconic Orlando Towers, and now the famous old power station in Soweto is going to get some new art. A competition is underway to select whose it will be.
A panel comprised of visual artist Helen Sebidi, illustrator Karabo Poppy Moletsane and fine artist Bambo Sibiya will oversee the search, according to a news report on Friday. The top three selected artists – who will each get R10,000 – will co-create the final artwork that will become the newly painted gateway to Soweto.
The competition, run by Vodacom (the previous sponsor was First National Bank) and the government’s Living Legends Legacy Project, closes 16 April, so get designing and send in your application!
