South African National Parks and, more specifically, the Arid Region have announced “with pleasure” that a once in a lifetime 4×4 flower route, as well as hiking trail, has been opened at |Ai-|Ais/Richtersveld Transfrontier Park.
SANParks said in a statement today (Wed 26 July ’23):
“This route will take you meandering through the beautiful flowers along the Armanshoek on a 32km circular route that will take a visitor approximately three to four hours to experience it.”
The Armanshoek is not a normal tourist route but have been specially opened for three weeks to the public to share in the joy of a normal mountainous semi-desert transformed into a flower paradise.
Lucius Moolman, the Regional General Manager from the Arid Region issued an invite to everyone, saying:
“The Richtersveld is not usually known as the flower paradise but with the recent over 200mm of rain we have received, it is only fair to open up this section of the Park to the public.”
He said the Armanshoek 4×4 and hiking trail route will be open and accessible from 24 July 2023 until 13 August 2023. “It is an experience that one will never forget,” says Moolman.
