“Nobody’s Died Laughing” is a brilliant new theatrical-action-documentary telling the story of the life of one of South Africa’s most beloved performing artists and activists, Pieter-Dirk Uys… often better known as Evita Bezuidenhout.
In the documentary Uys jokes that he “had to create a character called Pieter Dirk Uys. Otherwise I would never have the courage to have an opinion.”
A host of famous and talented stars and personalities appear in the documentary to reveal their insight into the legendary, enigmatic Uys. Personalities include South African actress Charlize Theron, former President FW de Klerk (“political correctness is not part of his armour”), Desmond Tutu, David Kramer… and even Italian legendary star Sophia Loren.
But perhaps the most poignant words come from the late President Nelson Mandela, who told Uys “I mean it when I say you are one of my heroes.”
The first official trailer has been uploaded by Who Projects who say the film “tells the story of this legendary man, from an extra-ordinary country and the phenomenal power of laughter, through archive footage, his performances and interviews.”
