Mystery Heroes Rescue Swimmers who were Swept Out to Sea in South Africa

Somewhere near Cape Point in South Africa are four brave heroes who yesterday rescued four people in distress – they had been swept out to sea by rip currents in Buffels Bay in the Western Cape. But nobody knows who the Good Samaritans are.

The NSRI Station 10 Simons Town and Cape Medical Response (CMR) received a report by Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) rangers at 17h15 on New Year’s Day, about three women and a men who had been swept out by the strong currents.

But while NSRI and CMR were responding, the rangers let them know that all four casualties – who were from Steenberg – had been rescued by the four mystery men who “appeared out of nowhere”, according to a press statement from the NSRI.

The heroes apparently ran into the water, swam after the four casualties and rescued all of them, carefully handing them over to the care of the TMNP rangers before leaving the scene.

“It remains unknown who these 4 good samaritans are,” said the NSRI.

Two of the female casualties (aged 26 and 35) were treated by the NSRI and CMR paramedics before being transported to hospitals where they are in stable conditions, according to the NSRI.

The remaining man and woman were not injured.

“NSRI commend the swift actions of the 4 unidentified men who rescued the 4 casualties… and who they are and where they came from remains a mystery,” said the NSRI.

According to the Cape Point website, Buffels Bay is one of its most popular locations for day visitors.
