A mother and son duet is going totally viral in South Africa – attracting millions of views – not just because of the duo’s awesome musical talent… but because of the loving family values it instils, as mom and son can be seen looking at each other with such ‘precious’ love as they perform ‘A Whole New World’ from Disney’s Aladdin.
Ashur Petersen is the son of legendary SA musician Taliep Petersen who was tragically killed at his home in 2006 by his then wife Naiwa.
Ashur (26) shot to nationwide fame himself this year as a contestant on The Voice SA, where he honoured his late father by performing one of his greatest hits during the competition.
Ashur may have been recently eliminated from The Voice, but judging by the popularity of this video – SA has not heard the last of him yet!
Ashur has long been popular in Cape Town – where he became the youngest person in SA, at 20, to ever sell out the Baxter and Artscape Theatres… with a tribute show to his dad.
One Facebook user said today: “Wow I remember hearing ur mom and dad singing for the first time at the Lux when I was still very young…. she still sounds amazing.”
The young singer uploaded his duet with his mom (55-year-old Madeegha Anders) on Sunday 2 June. On Wednesday an elated Ashur posted a screenshot saying: “MOMMA WE HIT 1 MILLION VIEWS IN 3 DAYS!!!! ?????”
Today (Saturday) the video surpassed 3.5 million views!
