Fifteen-year-old South African Leroy Mokgatle has triumphed at the esteemed Genee International Ballet Competition in London by winning the gold medal. He also won the Margo Fonteyn Audience Award.

The Royal Academy of Dance event was held at the famous Sadler Wells. Past Genee medallists have gone on to dance for the Royal Ballet, the American Ballet Theatre and the English National Ballet, according to the BBC.
Leroy trains and dances with the Johannesburg nonprofit organisation Art of Motion. From Pretoria, he competed at the youth American Grand Prix New York Finals 2014 and was awarded the Junior Male Bronze Medal, making South African history.
Dancers from 16 countries took part in the Genee competition, and second and third place went to Australians. Five other South Africans besides Leroy took part.
