The two beautiful Friesian horses – a Mare and a Gelding – which were allegedly stolen from Shongweni Valley have been found, thanks to all the good people of South Africa who shared owner David Armstrong’s message on social media.
David said yesterday that they’d been stolen, with a “slim” but “unlikely” chance they’d wandered off, and was offering a reward for their successful return. A ‘Help Find Vince & Riley’ page was even set up.
He and his wife, Jane, were upset and distraught as Vince and Riley were more than just horses. They were part of their family… and were therapy horses, used with adults and children in the field of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy.
“They love people and love helping people. They are massive, as only Friesians can be, but they have the gentlest, most caring trusting souls,” they said in one post.
Today a farmer in Hammarsdale notified them he had seen them near his farm. Jane is currently with the horses, and has confirmed they are okay and unharmed. The couple is now arranging transport to get them all the way back home.
According to a friend of the family, “someone recognised them from a post on FB”.
KwaZulu-Natal South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane, said a case of stock theft has been opened at the Hillcrest SAPS.
