The show, which was watched by approximately a billion viewers around the world as 121 countries vied for the title, brought tears and pride to South Africans everywhere…especially when her first words after being crowned were “South Africa, this is for you. I’m so proud of you, and I’m proud to be your representative.”
During her first interview as Miss World she joked that her first call would be a “conference call to the whole of South Africa”!
Here are just some of the messages Rolene received on SAPeople’s Facebook page:
Marianna Hall De Koker – “Congrats, our test tube baby, Rolene Strauss.” (As Rolene told the Miss South Africa organisers, she is “the University of the Free State’s first successful test tube baby”.)
Jennifer King – “ROELENE for president…this is who South Africa needs right now…a humble role model…with all the little princesses in townships, towns and cities she has the power to make real change with the whole world watching!”
Dumi-d Lamabundza Rolene – “You shone bright like a diamond. You truly were a cut above the rest! You carried so much Grace and beauty!..May God give you strength to perform your duties to the best of your ability! Congrats gal.”
