You know your engagement is off to a good start when even an airline gets involved! Passengers on a Cape Town to Lanseria flight on Thursday night were treated to the best in-flight entertainment when media executive – and diehard romantic – Damion van Alphen proposed to his girlfriend, while a local airline’s staff played the ‘The Wedding Singer’ theme song over the speakers.
Since the romantic scene, Damion and his fiancée Tamsyn Clark have been courted by South African print, online and TV media.
Just after Damion walked down the aisle and popped the question to Tamsyn, the airline popped open some champagne for the couple to celebrate.
Damion wrote on Facebook that he was feeling “beyond blessed with everyone that made this possible. What started out as an idea to get permission to propose on board with a song across the intercom.”
He said “the guys from Mango put together everything. Including a camera crew and photographer not to mention getting Espresso Morning show to make our moment news the very next morning… including an interview.”
Although the whole experience has been nerve-wracking for Damion, he says the best part is “she said yes…I could not be happier.”
