The South African band was performing on stage in Berkeley, California, on Sunday when they learned they had won the Grammy Award. Here’s the moment they found out:

Writing on Twitter, Ladysmith Black Mambazo sent “special THANK YOUs” to their manager, tour manager (for travelling the world with us and keeping us safe”), North American booking agency and Martin Walters who “mixed and mastered our Grammy winning CD & made it sound so beautiful. We thank the many people who help us keep our career going strong.”
The South African Government congratulated the band, saying: “Halala Ladysmith Black Mambazo!!! Congratulations on winning the Grammy Award for the Best World Music Album 2017. Continue flying our South African flag high. Re motlotlo ka lona.”
DA Leader Mmusi Maimane tweeted a photo of himself with the band, and said: “Congratulations to the phenomenal South African group. #LadysmithBlackMambazo have been such ambassadors for our country and their music so synonymous with who we are. Apart from the five Grammy Awards, the musicians also have the following awards: Best Traditional Folk Recording (1988), Best Traditional World Music Album (2004), Best Traditional World Music Album (2009) and Best World Music Album Live (2013).
