The Khoisan 4 have returned home to a hero’s welcome after Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa showed he’s the man who cares… by stepping up today, 24 December 2017, to receive a  a memorandum from the Khoibushmen Liberation Walkers, who had been camped outside the Union Buildings in Pretoria this month.

Lisa Marcelle Hold, who shared their story and photos with SAPeople yesterday, said she was feeling completely overwhelmed with emotions of gratitude and hope today. The Pretoria resident had been working tirelessly to raise awareness and get Ramaphosa’s attention. Two of the Khoisan 4 had been on a hunger strike for over two weeks, and their health was deteriorating critically but they refused to eat until Ramaphosa or President Jacob Zuma received their memorandum.

Lisa became involved when, as a concerned citizen, she went to visit the men to see if they needed anything… after they had walked all the way from Port Elizabeth to deliver their memorandum.

After Ramaphosa met with the men today, Lisa said: “So many people have shown such love and support for these warriors and if I could I would like to thank you each personally.

“Today will be a day I will never forget. I don’t think I have cried as much today in a long time – but unlike yesterday, today were tears of joy.

“Thank you to the residents of Pretoria for showing your love and compassion.

“Thank you to the media for taking my endless calls and whatsapps and for bringing this incredible story to the the people of South Africa and the world.

“Thank you to the people of our beautiful South Africa for your constant support on social media, posting your photos and your thousands and thousands of messages of support for the Khoisan4.

“And thank you to our Deputy President, Cyril Ramaphosa, for showing love and compassion today.

“Thank you.”

Deputy President Ramaphosa received the memorandum near the Nelson Mandela statue in the Union Buildings gardens where the group of four had set up camp to highlight land and identity issues.

On receiving the memorandum, Deputy President Ramaphosa assured the delegation that the memorandum would be given the necessary consideration.

Deputy President Ramaphosa also informed the group of the passage by the National Assembly of a Bill that gives recognition to the Khoisan community and its heritage.

Deputy President Ramaphosa said the next step would be the submission of the Bill to the National Council of Provinces.

On Sunday evening, an elated Lisa said: “The Chief just called me. Arrived safe and is elated to be welcomed by his mother and wife. All 4 warriors are beyond happy to finally be home and reunited with their loved ones after their 3 week ordeal.

“Chief said they are all looking forward to a hot soak in the bath and a good night’s sleep in a bed!

“The Chief has asked me to express his love and gratitude to EVERY single person who supported their cause.”
