The Kalahari has been drenched in beautiful showers of wet, wonderful rain. The dry and arid soil, and vegetation, has soaked up the water and transformed the barren desert into a luscious green visual feast.
Local resident Pieter Kotzé, who works at Kalahari Rangers farm (formerly Mc Carthy’s Rest) on the Northern Cape border with Botswana, captured these photos over the past month. The area is remote – 200 km to the main town (so a trip to the corner store for vegetables means travelling 400km!).
“The Kalahari recovers quickly from dry to wet season,” Pieter told SAPeople. “This year was no exception, and this beautiful recovery took place over a period of 27 days!”
Here’s the before…
And after…
Before…
And after…
Before the rains, but with the rainbow promise…
After the rains down in Africa…
