South Africa won’t be very nice without white people, according to EFF leader Julius Malema. In an address to the Cape Town Press Club in Kelvin Grove, Newlands, last month, Malema joked “This country is not going to be very nice without you guys. We complement each other. We need each other. We’re now even beginning to date one another!”
Malema pulled out all the stops in his speech, his humour spilling over, even while discussing serious issues like the 2012 Marikana mining tragedy (saying that Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, who played a role, “loves money more than people”).
He covered Helen Zille’s mysterious spy tapes, his own need to pay back SARS and said that “we made Zuma President…we’ll remove him as President. He’s not going to have a nice time in the next five years.” He predicted that Zuma will be losing even more weight, saying “watch this space”.
On Nkandla, Malema said we have passed the stage of debating over who should pay back the money. “We are at the stage where we must be discussing: how much must I pay? And how must I pay?” He then jokingly suggested Zuma use e-wallet or send the money through Shoprite.
