In an effort to reduce the demand on the power grid, Eskom will be implementing load-limiting to seven new suburbs in Johannesburg.

Load-limiting always for Eskom to reduce the amount of power your home receives and allows for appliances such as Wi-Fi, TV, fridge and charger be connected. However, should a customer not switch off non essential appliances, and reduce their consumption, a message is sent to their cellphone before Eskom temporarily switches off power in their meter.

The latest areas to included are Buccleuch, Kyalami, Kelvin, Marlboro, Paulshof, Dunning hill and Waterfall.
This new system, is only available to residents with smart meters.
Benefits of load limiting
- Potential reduction of loadshedding from stage 1 to 4.
- Continuation of essential appliances (lights, TV, cellphone and charger).
- Assisting the utility to balance the required load against available supply in an effort to reduce the impact of loadshedding.
