The South African National Congress secretary-general Ace Magashule officially announced on Thursday the new appointment of North West Premiere, Job Makgoro.
Magashule said Makgoro will be sworn in on Friday. This follows the early retirement of former premiere Supra Mahumapelo last month.
Mahumapelo resigned last month, following protests over his managing of the province and controversial ties to the Gupta family. Mahumapelo is expected to also resign from his position as an ordinary member of the North West legislature.
Makgoro, who will be turning 70, is a former Director General of North West government.
Magashule said, “Professor Mokgoro is a tried and tested activist and administrator fit enough to deal with the challenges at hand, including creating stability within the provincial administration affecting the much-needed delivery of basic services.”
Professor Makgoro holds a number of administrative and academic accolades including a Masters and Honorary Doctorate in Public Administration from the University of Toledo in the United States, said the ANC.
Magashule also revealed that the decision of selecting the new premiere was a unanimous decision.
