There’s a wonderful officer from the Johannesburg Municipal Police Department (JMPD) who not only assists children cross the street safely to school… but packs them off with a sandwich too!
According to Gauteng resident Tiffany Dewar, ‘Mama Dora’ buys two loaves of bread each day and makes sandwiches for all the kids who go to school across her crossing.
After watching the caring police officer every day for months, Tiffany pulled over on Friday to meet her.
Writing on social media, Tiffany said: “Today I had the absolute pleasure of meeting ‘Mama Dora’ – JMPD officer. Having watched her every day assisting children cross the old Pretoria road to the school next to Diepsloot – with such a shining personality that inspired me every day… [so] that after months of waving at her, I stopped to find out her name.
“Dora loves her job – she lives to assist all the children.”
Apart from making them sandwiches, Dora also concerns herself with kids that have bottomless shoes, or no jerseys on cold winter days, and she knows which shacks they live in so she can keep an eye on them.
“She even personally takes kids to the hospital who have tried making porridge for their younger siblings and ended up with boiling water spilling on their legs [and] have second degree burns.”
Tiffany has appealed to anyone in the area to please donate old clothes, school shoes and blankets to Dora to help all “her kids” who are in desperate need. Drop off is at Kyalami Equestrian Park. Please contact Tiffany (see link below).
“Every little item new or old will help,” says Tiffany. “Dora is a true Hero in making a difference through love in the community…”
