Check out this amazing footage of a large pod of dolphins swimming off the coast of Blouberg…with Table Mountain as their backdrop. HJALMAR REITZ captured this incredibly special scene last week on a DJI Phantom 3.
“I was basically trying to take some general footage of the beach front (following another video I made at Eden on the Bay), and happened to see a patch in the water…so flew over there to inspect…Nice suprise to see a pod of dolphins!” Hjalmar told SAPeople.

The dolphins first appear at around 1’30″…but the footage before of the coastline is beautiful too!
Earlier last week a photo from Jeffreys Bay went viral around the world. The picture, by Chris de Vos, showed a surfer riding the famous JBay waves with a crowd of dolphins.
The photo was uploaded to Facebook by Bay Cove Inn in Jeffreys Bay. The photo below was taken in the same area the day before where apparently the ‘St Francis shoal’ can sometimes stretch 1km long!
According to Ocean Safaris website, most schools of dolphin are around 200 but can reach up to 10,000 during short periods – when chasing shoals of fish, like during the legendary Sardine Run off South Africa’s east coast. The best time of year to see them is now – late summer, autumn and early winter – when the migration of fish along the coast lures the dolphins from the deeper oceans.
