Grateful Mom’s Quest to Make Kind SA Doctor Famous

A very grateful mother of twins, Suz-Lee Ka Nogaga, is on a mission to make Dr Julia Kirkby famous, and asks everyone to “please share to help me celebrate this beautiful soul”.

Last year, Suz-Lee gave birth to twin daughters… but one of them, Emihle, needed to stay in hospital. Dr Kirkby was one of the doctors who worked on Emihle at Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital (nicknamed Joburg Gen).

“She went out of her way to support me and my family through that ordeal,” says Suz-Lee in a message on Facebook. “I had another twin who also needed me at home, while I had to travel to Johannesburg every second day to see my other sick baby. It was not easy at all.

“Whenever I was not there Dr Julia would update me on my baby’s condition. Despite her busy schedule, she would make time to explain everything to me.

“One day she even sent me a picture of my baby saying “hi mom”. I was so happy?.

“She went far beyond her line of duty to take care of my baby. Oh and… she even held her more than I did at the time?.

“It was a painful experience for a new mother like me, but she made it easy for me.”

And kind Dr Kirkby’s caring didn’t end when Emihle was finally able to leave hospital. Nor when she herself changed jobs to now work at Nelson Mandela Hospital.

Suz-Lee says Dr Kirkby still makes time to chat to her and find out how “her” baby is doing, and she asks for pictures.

“I will never forget what she did for my daughter. And when Emihle grows up, I’ll tell her about this guardian angel. Who knows, maybe that will inspire her to become a doctor just like beautiful Dr Juls?
