As the Rio Olympics 2016 gets set for the Opening Ceremony tonight, the South African team has been boosted with a a brilliant show of support by a #GoTeamSA video launched by the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) this morning. The video – with the SA national anthem as its soundtrack – reveals South Africans from all over the world expressing their support for the SA sports stars who will be representing their country in Brazil.
The moving video has been compiled by the NMMU’s Computing Sciences department in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
Associate Professor Jean Greyling told SAPeople that the video project features 100 photos from 20 countries on 7 continents in 3 minutes. Photos were submitted by NMMU students, Alumni and friends of the department from around the globe.
The Olympic Games will run until 21 August and only officially starts today… although some games actually began a couple of days ago. (In fact the South African football team drew with the home team in Brasilia yesterday.)
It’s predicted that approximately three billion people will watch the Opening Ceremony tonight which includes over 300 dancers, 12,000 costumes and 5,000 volunteers!
