Good news for those living in the States, or visiting South African family and friends in the US – South African Airways (SAA) has announced that it will no longer stop in Senegal on its route from Johannesburg to New York, cutting the route by 90 minutes and making it the fastest way to get to New York from South Africa.
The airline said it has resumed non-stop service on its daily flight from JHB to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, USA.
Whilst SAA’s daily southbound flight from New York to Johanessburg has operated on a non-stop basis for several years, it was the return flight during the low season winter months that was always a schlep for travellers as the airline made a one-hour en-route stop in Dakar, Senegal on its way to the USA.
The airline said yesterday that “due to the popularity of this route, SAA’s service between New York and Johannesburg will, once again, operate nonstop in both directions on a year-round basis.”
The resumption of the non-stop service was effective as of 7 March.
It reduces the overall travel time on the northbound JHB-New York route by nearly 90 minutes, making it the fastest way to travel from South Africa to New York.
“We listened to our customers, who want to travel between North America and Southern Africa as fast as possible,” said Marc Cavaliere, Executive Vice President, North America for South African Airways.
SAA has been flying to the US for over 45 years and, with 28 weekly departures between New York and Washington and Johannesburg, offers the most daily flights between South Africa and the USA.
