South African-born, Los Angeles-based film director Gavin Hood, who made “Tsotsi” and the newly released thriller “Eye in the Sky” with Helen Mirren, said the entire movie was shot in South Africa, even though it “takes place” in Nairobi, London and Las Vegas.
He said the movie, which is a tense drama starring Mirren, Alan Rickman and Aaron Paul (as well as Hood as an American colonel) about the moral implications of drone warfare after a terrorist attack in Kenya, was made using a fantastic South African crew, “and I”m really proud of the work they did”.

Hood made the video promoting the movie – although he said he wasn’t used to making selfie videos – the day after the premiere of the movie in New York.
“Eye in the Sky” had a soft opening in the US last week, where it topped box office results according to Deadline.com, earning an average of $23,410 per theater in five New York and Los Angeles theaters.
Here are a few clips from reviews around the world, which have raved about the movie:
“A riveting thriller about drone warfare and its perils.” The New York Times
“‘Eye in the Sky’ asks a provocative question: Does conscience still figure in modern warfare?” Rolling Stone
“A rivetingly suspenseful drama that deftly intertwines elements of ticking-clock thriller and tragic farce.” Variety
