Fire Rips Through Popular Pretoria Venue

One of Pretoria’s most beautiful and well known venues, Stone Cradle, was burnt this morning when fire broke out in the restaurant. Authorities say the cause of the fire is unknown at this stage. From the photos which have been shared on Facebook it appears the damage is extensive.
The thatched roof restaurant was very popular with its stunning views over the Rietvlei Nature reserve. This afternoon Stone Cradle uploaded the following message to its Facebook page:
A private Centurion page for local citizens extended a heartfelt thank you to all those who helped on the scene – South African Police Services (SAPS), Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Scorpion Risk Services, CCC Reaction Team Members and all other services and members of the public.
CCC Zello Channel apparently received a call just after 10h00 this morning and by 13h00, fire fighters were still working to get the fire under control. “We salute you,” said the page.
A local Pretoria resident told SAPeople that Stone Cradle was popular “not only for their food but functions, conferences and year-end parties. We are heartbroken for this tragic loss…”
ER24 reported that fortunately all those on the scene were safely evacuated from the building and nobody was injured. In a statement on the ER24 site they said: “Four people were treated on scene for smoke inhalation.
“These included people who helped get some of the people in the building out quickly, as well as a man believed to be in his 80’s found next door to the building where the fire erupted.
A small chapel in Pretoria also apparently burnt down today.
