Fab French Song Honours SA and Mama Africa (and Watch Joburg’s Buildings!)

Popular French songstress Jain has released ‘Makeba’, a song that honours the late South African singer and civil rights activist, Miriam Makeba… aka Mama Africa – and showcases SA and South Africans in a brilliantly creative visual production. Watch children dance and Joburg’s buildings go up… and down.

The 24-year-old singer-songerwriter, born Jeanne Galice, says: “Miriam Makeba’s songs have always followed me through the countries where I lived, by her strength and her voice, she became for me a Symbol.”

Born in France, Jain travelled the world growing up because of her father’s work. She spent some time in the Congo which she says has influenced her taste for “danceable melodies”. She also lived in Dubai and Abu Dhabi before settling in Paris.

Jain says ‘Makeba’ “is a symbolic clip, where South Africa is put forward, where art and rhythm are mixed, and where cultures are in harmony.

“Greg and Lio, the two directors knew perfectly how to capture this.

“Between street artist, pantsula dancers, fanfares and musicians, it is also a personal meeting with South African artists around the music.

“Viva Mama Africa!!!”

Jain’s first album ‘Zanaka’ went Gold in February this year.
