One of the world’s most iconic monuments – the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France – is celebrating is 130rd anniversary this week with a fabulous laser display. The Eiffel Tower was first opened to the public on 15 May 1889.
If you’re living or holiday in Paris, the show is on for the last time tonight.
The Eiffel Tower said on social media that the show, designed by Bruno Seillier, is best watched from the Trocadéro-Iena Bridge. It’s a 12 minute long show per hour from 10pm to midnight. (Watch highlights below.)
The Eiffel Tower – known as the ‘Iron Lady’ stretches 324 meters above Paris. She was designed by Parisian engineer Gustave Eiffel and built for the 1889 Universal Exhibition.
According to Reuters, the construction of the most famous of Parisian monuments took two years, two months and five days, which was considered a feat of technical prowess at the time, mobilising between 300 and 450 workers.
Seven million tourists visit the Eiffel Tower each year, with a total of 300 million visitors from across the world since 1889.
