It’s the tweet that keeps on retweeting. Six years on and people are still sharing Ed Sheeran’s twitter post from the night he was at a house party in London, surrounded by South Africans – who, like many expats abroad – were clearly teaching him some SA slang and swear words.
On Thursday night ‘kief’ South African singer Jack Parow became the latest to share Sheeran’s tweet… although he reposted a screenshot on facebook rather than retweeting.
Some have questioned the authenticity of the tweet, but it’s real. Posted in February 2010 from Sheeran’s official twitter account. Many (South Africans!) have said it’s the best tweet they’ve seen and deserves all the retweets it gets!
The English singer-songwriter has gathered millions of followers over the past 5 years with his quirky and interesting posts… but in December 2015 he told his 5.7 million followers on Instagram, 14.2 m on Facebook and 16.7 m on Twitter that he’s taking a break from his phone, emails and all social media.
“I’ve had such an amazing ride over the last 5 years but I find myself seeing the world through a screen and not my eyes so I’m taking this opportunity of me not having to be anywhere or do anything to travel and the world and see everything I missed.” He ended the message saying “see you all next autumn, and thank you for being amazing”.
