A South African student from Durban, Jade Reynolds, has achieved the top marks in the world for not only one, but two subjects, in her November 2021 Cambridge International Exams. The subjects are Biology and Accounting.
Her delighted former tutor, Beverley Cooke-Tonnesen, from The Learning Coach (TLC), a Durban-based tuition centre, took to social media on Friday afternoon to celebrate, saying: “WOW WOW WOW! Look at what our Jade achieved!!”
Beverley said “this achievement is properly huge”, explaining that globally there were more than 178,000 entries from 118 countries for the Cambridge International AS & A Levels in the November 2021 series.
Beverley revealed: “Jade is truly phenomenal. She’s brilliant AND she works flipping hard.”
Jade left traditional schooling at the end of Grade 10 to homeschool through Cambridge International. Jade received tutoring from Beverley’s TLC for all her IGCSE subjects in 2020 and, according to Beverley “achieved magnificent results; including Top in South Africa for History”.
In 2021, Jade “found her confidence enough to go it alone with some subjects,” said Beverley. “She continued with TLC for English and Afrikaans… so as much as we’d love to take credit for her Biology and Accounting global success, we can’t ?. Congratulations, Jade – YOU did this!”
Proud mom Carol Reynolds said: “So proud of my Jadey!!! Just incredible results! Thank you Bev for your ongoing support and amazing tutoring ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️”
Carol – who was Miss Universe SA 1996 – told SAPeople: “These children sacrifice so much when they remove themselves from formal schooling, so it’s just so wonderful to see Jade getting some recognition for her achievements. We are truly grateful ❤️❤️❤️”
Bev, aka ‘The Learning Coach’, is an award-winning teacher and theatre arts professional. She’s worked in SA, the UK and US; and has also travelled through Africa, Europe, as well as North and Central America. You can find TLC on Facebook here (Beverley does Zoom tutoring too).
