KwaZulu-Natal’s brightest and merriest festive experience – the Durban Botanic Gardens Trail of Lights – is back, and it’s bigger and better than ever before! Photographer Peter de Groot visited the event to capture these stunning photos – a perfect mix of traditional Christmas scenes from Father Christmas, reindeer and candy canes – to terrific traditional themes in the ‘African Village’, including rhino, elephant and Zulu spears lit up spectacularly.
Peter says the family-friendly event, in Africa’s oldest surviving botanic garden, is “an awesome show” this year. Trail of Lights 2022 is on until 2 January 2023 with tickets ranging from R55 to R80 if you book online, and R100 at the gate, subject to availability.
The organisers explain “an illuminated trail winds its way through the Durban Botanic Gardens, providing fun for the entire family in a safe and secure environment” where you can “enjoy world class lighting displays, festive scenes, magical characters, artisanal food gardens, a festive market, plus so much more.”
