More than 24 hours after the open letter to President Jacob Zuma was published online by Yusuf Abramjee, head of Crime Line and co-founder of Lead SA, people continue to madly, desperately or just humourously tweet their responses.
In his letter, Abramjee focused largely on crime in the country and the plight of the police.
Among other things, he wrote, “How do you expect police officers to feel proud to wear the badge when their lives mean so little, reduced to lip service in an eloquent speech and another name on the commemoration wall? The lives of our citizens count for even less it seems. Some 47 South Africans are murdered on average every day.”
Twitter followers had other things to add too, ranging from nuclear power deals to fire pools to the Dalai Lama:
#DearMrPresident Please, please, for the love of this country, step down and let someone with integrity take the reigns.
