South Africa’s Proteas won their match against Sri Lanka today in Colombo by nine wickets, therefore securing victory in the Twenty20 (T20) series before the final match has been played.
Cricket South Africa tweeted: “RESULT #Proteas WON BY 9 WICKETS. An undefeated Quinton de Kock (58*) fifty see the #Proteas cruise to victory and seal the series in the process.”
The match on Sunday was plagued with rain, but nothing seemed able to upset De Kock who was on fine form, smashing seven boundaries. As one fan said: “The calming effect this man has on this batting line-up can’t be measured in stats. Things just look much better when he is playing well.”
South Africa lost the one-day international series 2-1, but has won all three matches in the T20 series so far – beating Sri Lanka by 28 runs in the first match, and bowling Sri Lanka out for 103 in the second.
The final will take place in Colombo on Tuesday.
