South African morning radio host and stand-up comedian Darren Simpson’s pranks are famous in South Africa… and now the world.
In a list on Comedy Central UK of ’10 Famous Prank Calls That Will Never Not Be Funny’, Breakfast Xpress’ Simpson made it onto the list not once, but twice!
Not surprisingly, the BMW auto complaint made it into the list. It’s a classic that most South Africans have listened to at least twice.
The other entry – right up in second position – has a more UK flavour to it. It’s the time Simpson called UK supermarket Asda and asked them to make an announcement that actually advertised their rival Tescos.

One of the other pranks featured by Comedy Central UK, although not in its list, is the recent call that renowned Australian comedy duo, Hamish and Andy, made to a random number in Melbourne for a stranger’s job reference… and “accidentally found the best bloke in Australia”.
