The official dam level stats in the Western Cape remain GOOD despite the summer season being well past its halfway mark.

The six major dams in the province – the Berg River, Steenbras Lower, Steenberg Upper, Theewaterskloof, Voelvlei and Wemmershoek – are cumulatively UP on a similar period last year.

The City of Cape Town uploaded its latest stats as of Tuesday, 27 February 2024.

The latest figures show the six dams are a combined 73.1% of total storage.

That’s marginally down from 75.2% the previous week.

A year ago the combined percentage stood at 56.6%.

Theewaterskloof, which accounts for more than 50% of the province’s total dam capacity (480 188 MI of a total of 898 221 MI) is at 71.6% of capacity, while the next biggest dam, Voëlvlei (164 095 MI), is at 68.6%.

Western Cape residents need no reminding of life during the ‘Day Zero’ water crisis from mid-2017 to mid-2018.
