Congratulations Capetonians! Cape Town Water Restrictions to be Relaxed

The incredible water-conserving efforts of Capetonians, along with the rain and snow in the Western Cape, means that within a month Cape Town citizens will be rewarded with the luxury of perhaps flushing the loo, or languishing in a bath.

Cape Town Deputy Mayor, Ian Nielson, announced an upcoming relaxation of the water restrictions which made world headlines… and which will result in a lowering of water tariffs for the people of Cape Town.

Capetonians have been commended for coming together with the City of Cape Town and local businesses to work together to conserve water, during the worst period of an unprecedented drought.

The DA leader in the W. Cape – Bonginkosi Madikizela – said today: “I want to thank the people of Cape Town for their water saving efforts who, without this would not have been possible.”

He added: “Although restrictions remain in place, the future of the City’s water supply is looking better day by day.”

Deputy Mayor Neilson announced that Cape Town will be relaxing its water restrictions from Level 6B to Level 5 from 1 October 2018.

He said this will bring relief for tax rates of between 26% and 70% per kilo-litre of water.

The water usage target will be increased from 50 litres to 70 litres per person per day… and the daily collective consumption target will increase by 50 million litres to 500 million litres, to ensure that  water conservation efforts remains in place, he said.

Nielsen praised Capetonians for the “great sacrifices” they had made and said: “We beat this drought together.”

Madikizela reminded Capetonians: “Let’s continue to save water and use only what we need.”
