South Africa may not have won the Cape Town Sevens Tournament… but the venue was a winner, with many of the teams posting fabulous photos of Cape Town on their Twitter pages.
The team from very cool Fiji tweeted: “How cool is this? Captains pose on the roof of the Cape Town Stadium with the famous Table Mountain in the background.”
Fellow Africans – Kenya Rugby Sevens – tweeted on Saturday: “CapeTown7s is at capacity with 55,000 fans. Their stadium is also state of the art with the largest Megatron screen in Africa. Good look for Africa.”
But perhaps the most grateful was Canada. Rugby Canada tweeted: “Dear @CapeTown7s: Thank you for the stunning training ground & sunshine. It’s snowing back home! – Yours truly, ??”
Cape Town Sevens responded with a warm welcome, and reminded them to wear sunblock.
After beating Canada to win Bronze, Blitzboks captain Philip Snyman said the victory over Canada was a good way to end the tournament and thanked the crowd for their wonderful support.
“It was amazing playing in front of a packed stadium. Even when we did not win against New Zealand, the crowd backed us and it was a great feeling to know your fans back you to till the end. That is why we love playing here in Cape Town, in front of out passionate supporters,” said Snyman.
