A British family would like to track down a South African couple to say thank you for their generous gesture that’s left them feeling moved and emotional, during a year in which – unknown to the SA couple – they have battled cancer.
On Wednesday evening, Andy Heather posted a message on Facebook saying:
“Please Share. I have just experienced one of the most generous experiences of my life from complete strangers.
“We are out for a meal with my Great Aunt and the rest of my family in Zizi in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire.
“I’m guessing the couple on the table next to us spotted we were dining with our disabled son.
“After they had left the waitress came up and said they had left a £100 gift card to pay for our meal.
“The only thing I know is I think their names were George and Charlise / Charlize and the waitress thinks they were South African.
“I would love this message to reach them. We are staggered and deeply moved by their generosity…. — feeling emotional at Zizzi. xxx”
Later Andy wrote: “Still can’t quite believe what has happened tonight. Cancer was the low point for me this year but since then I have experienced so many positive feelings and experiences…”
Andy passed on some of their “good fortune” to the waitress. “I’m a firm believer in you get back what you give.”
Andy’s friends said the kindness restores one’s faith in humanity and “there are still some truly wonderful people out there… and you as a family deserve it.”
If you know who the South African couple could be, please get in touch with admin@sapeople.com or with Andy here.
UPDATE:A South African expat living in the UK, Charmaine Cronk Hopper, recognised the names of the couple as friends of hers and got in touch with them. She says: “They are astonished about all this attention as they had a tough year and wanted to show gratitude for their blessings. They would like to stay anonymous. I am so proud to know them!” Following this article, the couple has privately got in touch with Andy and his family (see Andy’s message in the comments below). #TrueHeroes!
