One man’s positive feelings for South Africa has had a ripple effect around the country. After a fantastic evening at the Sharks vs Lions rugby match at Ellis Park, Sais du Plooy was driving home when he had an epiphany…
He created a video (watch below) and posted it to Facebook saying: “I’ve never posted anything like this on Social Media, but I just had this epiphany and I felt the need to share my experience with people.
“Take note that I was at a big sporting event and thus my voice was left screaming at Ellis Park last night. #OneLove #TowardsABetterFuture#ProudlySouthAfrican #UnityInDiversity.”
In the video Sais explains that his evening, shared with Bhekisa Junior Shongwe, was so special, sharing conversations… and moved him to want to motivate everyone to “take that one small step… and don’t be afraid to make new friends and accommodate people with different racial backgrounds… don’t live in fear.”
He then asked viewers to listen to the words and try to do their bit, as he sang a mash up of ‘Weeping’ and ‘Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrica’.
Sais has now uploaded the video to YouTube and says: “Why so negative about South Africa? This is a wonderful country and I love being a part of it. This is my home, this is my heart. Let’s be the change.”
Speaking today to Jacaranda FM after this video has gone viral, Sais says he understands that sometimes a “ray of sunshine” can carry a nation like South Africa through the dark times…
