The most beautiful kind acts are naturally those that are done anonymously, without the need to tell anybody else. And that’s what happened earlier this month in South Africa when a grieving daughter reached out to help someone else in need. Nobody else would ever have known about it… except for the fact that inspirational speaker Nicky Abdinor’s mother was in the car behind her.
Nicky uploaded the two photos on 6 April to social media, saying: “Random act of kindness in Milnerton, Cape Town today ❤️ This elderly lady is often collecting money at the Woodbridge Island traffic lights and struggles to walk.
“How heartwarming to see this lady get out of her car and donate a walking aid to her! Thanks to my mom for capturing this moment on her phone (but in future, don’t use your phone while driving ?).”
The compassion shown in the heartwarming photos reminded South Africans of how much goodwill there is in the country, and thousands shared the post.
The gesture would’ve remained anonymous… and still as inspiring, except that a few people recognised the kind-hearted woman, whose mother had sadly passed away a few weeks beforehand. A former neighbour, Craig Wood, said: “That was her walker and that is her Daughter giving it to someone who really needs it, God bless you my wonderful friend what a lovely way to honour the memory of your Mom…”
The woman, who prefers to remain anonymous, thanked everyone for their messages and said: “All I’d like to ask of each and everyone of you, is to take from this and find something, no matter how big or small and do something good for someone who needs it… That’s all I’d love to see… these are not “random acts of kindness” these are “intended acts of kindness”. Be kind to your Neighbour… Be a GREAT human being.”
Nicky updated her timeline a couple of days later, saying in a time of “great uncertainty in our country”, she thinks “the post went viral because we are desperate to remind ourselves what is good in South Africa.
“One thing that I know for sure… this act of kindness can only inspire us all to do far more (with less!).”
