The beautiful reunion between an injured young monkey and his loving family in Amanzimtoti, South Africa, has gone viral, clocking up 3.8 million views on Unilad in four days.

The video – which was actually first posted in October 2017 by Umsizi Umkomaas Vervet Rescue Centre – features the release of Pearce back to his troop after recovering from his injuries.

The Rescue Centre described it has a “rare glimpse into the bond these primates have with each other ?”. They say they’ve been “blown away” by the response the video has had.

It’s been picked up and shared by major social media pages like the Dodo, and now Unilad.

Recently Umsizi reposted the video saying: “It has been a tough couple weeks with losing so many of our rescues but it’s these kind of videos that act as motivation for us.”

They say that “knowing that people around the world are able to see this video and see the beauty in these animals makes it that much easier!”

Pearce was named after the young grade 11 learner from Kingsway High School – Pierce Ackermann – who first noticed he was injured, probably from barbed wire.
