Baby Rhino Serenaded to Sleep by Guitar Playing Aussie in South Africa

Ag shame… this is so cute. A baby rhino – which is being cared for by Petronel Nieuwoudt’s wonderful Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary – falls asleep to the gentle strumming of a guitar by an Australian zoo keeper.

The little rhino calf was adopted by the South African Sanctuary at the age of one-day-old, after her mother sadly rejected her at birth.

The Sanctuary says she “has a strong will to survive” and “continues to improve as each day goes by!”

They added: “Fortunately for Care for Wild staff, we have the ‘baby rhino sleep whisperer’ in the form of Mark Mills, who is a ungulate keeper at Monarto Zoo, and is currently at our rhino orphanage on a 6 month work placement. Whenever Mark plays the guitar, this baby rhino will listen intently and then snuggle up next to him where she falls into a deep sleep.”

Some of Mark’s friends have joked that perhaps she’s pretending to sleep so he’ll stop playing!
