A top-selling Australian magazine has featured a wonderful promotion of South Africa in its latest edition, describing the country as one of the world’s most exotic locations for food and wine with “magic around every bend”.
South African expat Jane Berry, who now lives in Sydney, described finding the article in this week’s issue of Woman’s Day as a “pleasant surprise!”
She said “it makes me so happy to see such positive promotion of our beautiful homeland!”
The magazine article, written by journalist Kelly Kruger (surely no relation to the Park!), highlights South Africa’s fine wine and cuisine.
“Never considered South Africa as a relaxing food and wine destination? Well, you’re certainly in for a delicious surprise.,” writes Kelly. “World-class cuisine, fine wines, exotic produce and home-style cooking are some of the reasons you may need a pair of elasticated pants for the flight home!”
She recommends that Aussie tourists visit Franschhoek in the Cape Winelands region, renowned as the culinary capital of SA and highlights Babylonstoren’s organic fruit and vegetable garden.
For unforgettable hospitality, Kelly recommends a visit to Batho’s Place (which means People’s Place) in the Langrug township near Franschhoek where one can enjoy fried chicken and ‘umqombothi’ (“a type of African beer brewed from maize”).
The Australian article points out how well the Aussie dollar does in South Africa and warns that “wherever you go, expect to eat lots of meat” (which is saying something coming from a country that’s also well known for its barbecues!).
As with most pieces promoting South Africa, it includes taking the cable car or hiking up Table Mountain.
For adventure, Kelly advises a safari trip in the North West to spot the Big Five, and for luxury and “jungle fun in the sun” she recommends that Sun City should not be missed.
Woman’s Day is Australia’s top selling weekly magazine, read by over 2-million women across the nation and across all demographics.
We look forward to welcoming many Australians to our shores!
