A police officer in the Western Cape has been commended on social media for his dedication to duty in coming to the aid of a foreign student whose car had broken down.
Local resident Ian Jackson has shared the story on Facebook, thanking SAPS, and specifically an officer named Gideon, for their sterling work.
Ian said he received a call on Thursday evening at around 17h45 from the young American female who is studying at the University of Cape Town (UCT).
“She was driving to Pinelands and had just left the N2 and had a puncture and phoned. I arrived in Pinelands 20 minutes later but could not find her; phoned and only got to her about 30 minutes after her call.”
It was already dark… but fortunately the officer, Gideon, had been driving home when he saw the student sitting in her car.
“He made a u-turn to sit with her till we arrived,” said Ian. “However, he went even further than that. As we arrived he had just finished the job of changing her wheel and repacking her boot (in the rain).
“He would not accept anything insisting that he was there to serve the public.
“Thank you SAPS and Gideon.
“TOO OFTEN THE NEGATIVE IS SHARED – PLEASE SHARE THIS WITH YOUR FRIENDS”
Many of Ian’s friends have thanked him for restoring their faith in the police force and in humanity in general!
One facebook user, Caron Weaving Reck, added: “I live in Woodstock and my partner does neighbourhood watch. SAPS is totally involved and are dedicated to protecting and cleaning up our neighbourhood. I am so proud of them!”
