Akani Simbine went sub 10 seconds twice on his way to a fifth national title in the mens 100m on the opening day of the SA Athletics Championships in Potchefstroom.
Defending his 100m title, Simbine clocked 9.98 seconds in his heat before scorching a 9.92 in his semi-final.
Inclement weather and strong winds dampened the final, but Simbine ran a 10.14 to secure a fifth national title.

In the women’s final, Carina Horn won her fifth national 100m title. She crossed the finish line in 11.52 while fending off Tamzin Thomas, who came in second in 11.58.
