The ‘Afrikaans Vertaal Grappie’ joke is old but it’s classic. This video was uploaded in 2013. The original joke was first posted on the internet in 2007, but even then it had been around for donkeys’ years! This week it’s been going viral again.
It’s what happens when you try to translate directly from one language to another – in this case, from Afrikaans to English… resulting in the joke teller tripping over the ‘carrot of a tree’, and telling a story about the ‘iron pig’, his ‘clean father’, the ‘old’ and the wheel being ‘porridge’!
