One of the burning questions that black people in South Africa would like to ask white people is: why do you always re-do high fives?

This and other questions have been asked on Facebook page, Joburger, after the page posted an image saying: “Okay black people… ask white people one question you always wanted to know”. These are some of the results (many of which are specific to white people in South Africa only):

  1. Do your dads always go to the shop and never come back?
  2. Why do white woman go to a salon pay big money only to come out looking the same?
  3. Is it compulsory to have a K way jacket from birth??
  4. Why don’t you guys scream and faint at funerals?? Why are yall so calm?? It’s very suspicious!!
  5. Why y’all get hyped up for Sweet Caroline?
  6. White folks… are you guys immortal I mean Why do you test God? Free falling? Jumping from one building to another? Free diving? Everything that has the possibility of dying you do. I mean even in the movies you go look for the f***en killer Whyyyyyyyy
  7. Are these [a pic of a khaki shirt]  only for farmers and where do they sell these?
  8. Why do you change your accents when you talk to black people? You do realize we are able to understand you when you just speak normally?
  9. White fathers – why can’t you accept that your daughter Brittanny is madly in love with Chairpoo I mean Tshepo. lol we preety nice people.

  2. Why do you get so angry when you standing on a queue??? I always make conversations with random white people on queue coz i know il be entertained by all the complaining i wont even notice how long it took. like damn sisi calm down

The questions – which have mostly been accompanied by happy smiley face icons – have had a uniting effect, and perhaps the most popular comment has been this from Mzwakhe Zondo: “I went to an afrikaans high school, I work at a mostly white dominated school and I must say; If both whites and blacks actually got to sit down and talk, one would find we have more in common than you think. Personally some of the best people I know are white (and no, I ain’t coconut), I believe it’s high time both blacks and whites should get to know each other and make peace.”
