South African expat Charlen Boboko is using her opportunity as a contestant in the Miss Africa Perth cultural and beauty pageant, in Australia, to inspire young teenage mothers about the possibility of making your wildest dreams come true… something she knows firsthand as she pursues her dream to bring clean water to a million people within the next two years.
Representing her “diverse and beautiful country of South Africa”, Charlen is raising awareness to give adolescent moms hope, by helping them understand that their lives are not over…
As a once teen mom herself, Charlen’s experienced for herself the difficulty of raising a child at a very young and critical age.
“I, however, was fortunate enough to receive great support and mentorship from people who understood my circumstances and were always willing to help. I believe that with the right resources, tools and support, adolescent mothers and mothers-to-be can be empowered to work towards their goals, pursue their dreams and successfully raise a family,” she says.
Charlen is the perfect living example of this.
Together with social enterprise Global Empowers, Charlen’s mission is to provide 1 million people with clean water by the end of 2019 by using an advanced water purification tablet, Vigor Aqua, which kills germs and viruses and frees water from Typhoid, Cholera, Dysentery, Salmonella and other water borne diseases.
Last year Global Empowers was a finalist at the Belmont and Western Australia Business Awards.
Charlen, who hails from Alabama in North West, says: “This is an exciting journey that I’m blessed to be a part of and the best is yet to come…”
