SA expat in Ireland selected for Junior Eurovision heats, as she releases new song
Niamh Beatrix has been selected from thousands of young hopefuls…
Twelve-year-old singer Niamh Beatrix has become the first South African (“as far as we know” adds her mom) to be selected out of thousands of young hopefuls to take part in the Junior Eurovision Ireland Heats , which started broadcasting last Sunday evening.
The rising star with a big heart and voice was selected following auditions earlier this year! For South Africans in Ireland – you can watch the Junior Eurovision Song Contest Éire heats (which started on Sunday 3 Sep) weekly on TG4 at 20h30.
The talented South African expat, who left SA with her family four years ago, has also this week released another cover in aid of Make-A-Wish Ireland. Her first cover was an Afrikaans song Klein Tambotieboom by popular SA rock band, Die Heuwels Fantasties (The Hills Fantastic). The song was streamed more than 2,000 times and watched more than 21,000 times in less than a month!
This time Niamh is covering a beautiful Irish song – Chasing Cars – and taking Ireland by storm with her personal interpretation of the hit song by Snow Patrol. The Irish (Gaeilige) words inscribed on the cover are: “Ar scáth a chéile a mhaireann na daoine” which means ‘people live in each other’s shadows’.
Niamh explains: “It means people are shielded from the sun by each other and I chose it because for me this song is about spending time in the shelter of those we love.”
Both Chasing Cars and Klein Tambotieboom can be streamed from major platforms and the music videos, featuring beautiful footage of Ireland’s landscapes, can be watched on Niamh’s YouTube Channel @NiamhB.
